New investigation sheds light on how a "routine" fire went wrong at NJ's Port Newark

A new three-part series from NJ Advance Media is exploring what happened when a major fire burned a cargo ship at Port Newark early last July, killing 2 firefighters.

The fire killed Augusto Acabou and Wayne Brooks Jr. Now, newly-released radio transmissions and incident reports shed light on what happened, and why it turned so deadly.

Investigative reporter Ted Sherman wrote the stories. He joined WNYC's Morning Edition host Michael Hill to talk about his findings.
