There's a sign outside Newark's famed Hobby's Deli that reads: "Dining room closed." Customers aren't allowed inside and have to call ahead to place an order, before a server gives them their packaged meal -- outside.
Michael Brummer co-owns the deli and says they closed the dining area on Monday ahead of the state's mandate that all restaurants and bars offer take out and delivery services only. He says at this rate, the downtown Newark landmark won't be able to stay open much longer.
"How am I supposed to pay public service, how am I supposed to pay the water bill? You have fixed costs that are still going," he told WNYC.
Brummer says the federal government needs to step in -- and offering low-income interest loans is not going to be enough.
