The New Jersey Department of Education says school districts can offer home instruction should they need to shut down for health reasons.
Long Branch Schools Superintendent Michael Salvatore says districts will need to accommodate every student — particularly those with special needs.
"I'm most concerned about those with high needs and making sure they have services in the home if we were in a quarantine basis," Salvatore told WNYC.
Districts have to offer 180 days of schooling in order to receive state funding. Under the new rules, schools can count online learning or classes in a nearby district. All preparedness plans will need to be reviewed by each district's county superintendent.
