The New York City Council unanimously passed legislation requiring the city to evaluate the totality of its climate risks.

While the bill originally focused on the city's shorelines, it got an overhaul following the deadly flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida. Now, the legislation would require the mayor's office to develop a resiliency plan for the entire city, and submit it by September 30, 2022. Then, the next mayor and city council would have to create a roadmap to address issues like floods, storm surge, and extreme heat caused by climate change. The council also passed a bill requiring all public school buses to be fully electric by 2035.

Mayor de Blasio has said he supports the measure.
