Photos: New York Goes Back to School

Thursday was a big day for New York City. Over one million students enrolled in 1,800 city schools, some for the first time. Mayor de Blasio kicked off a universal pre-kindergarten initiative, which meant more than 51,000 children started pre-k classes too. Amid these big changes, were the small ones. Kids learning new routes to school, embracing old friends. Teachers opening their classroom doors. Parents saying goodbye. Nearly 100 of you sent photos of your day and the result is a multi-faceted snapshot of  New York City on the first day of school. Thanks to all those who participated. Have a great school year!
