Officials in New York City are reporting more children suffering from an inflammatory condition linked to COVID-19.
So far, 82 children in New York City have been diagnosed with the condition, known as "pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome." Of those cases, 53 have tested positive for COVID-19 or had antibodies for the novel coronavirus. One child has died.
Mayor Bill de Blasio says it's unclear what makes children susceptible to the condition, and is urging parents to be on alert.
"The sooner anybody identifies in a child, in their life, this problem, the sooner they get to healthcare, the more chance that a child can be saved," said de Blasio.
Symptoms include high fever, rashes, abdominal pain, and vomiting.
