August was not a good month for New Yorkers who have been struggling to pay rent due to the pandemic. Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal eviction moratorium, not too long after it took the teeth out of New York State's ban on evictions. Now, New York's eviction moratorium has expired, leaving many tenants without the extra protections they have had since the start of the pandemic.
