Students from Newark, New Jersey public schools are dominating the state's speech and debate scene. They recently took home several first place trophies from the New Jersey State Championship Tournament for speech and debate. Students from the district's debate program will also head to the National Debate Coaches Association Championship in Indiana; other speech participants are going to Tournament of Champions in Kentucky. 

Central High School senior Ayomide Adekoya, Science Park High School senior Victoria Rengel, and Arts High School junior Amilah Stuart are all participants in the Newark speech and debate program. They — along with debate coach Jonathan Alston — joined Morning Edition host Michael Hill to talk about their recent successes.
