NJ Was The 1st To Let Foreign Doctors Help During COVID. But It Only Licenced 35 Of Them.

Last year, New Jersey made headlines when it became the first state in the country to allow internationally-trained doctors to join the fight against COVID-19. In April 2020, during the worst days of the pandemic in the region, Gov. Phil Murphy issued an executive order giving temporary medical licenses to foreign doctors. But the program frustrated some of those doctors because it never really got off the ground. WNYC's Karen Yi spoke to Morning Edition host Michael Hill about the program.
