NJ wrongful arrest lawsuit will tests cops' claims of qualified immunity

In 2018, police arrested Fernando Saint-Jean after a traffic stop on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, saying they thought he had drugs. He had a bag of candies.

He sued, and now a judge is letting his case proceed, even though the police involved have made a claim of qualified immunity. WNYC's Tiffany Hanssen spoke with New Jersey Monitor's Dana DiFilippo, who has been reporting on the case, about the challenges involved in holding police accountable for alleged wrongdoing and the status of the suit.
