NY Attorney General Suggests State Health Department Underreported COVID-19 Deaths In Nursing Homes

When the COVID-19 pandemic first struck, health officials and elected leaders immediately noticed that it devastated elderly New Yorkers, especially those living in nursing homes. Since then, the State Health Department says almost 9,000 nursing home residents have died. Now, an investigation by state Attorney General Letitia James has found that the state has been undercounting these fatalities by as much as 50 percent.
