NY lawmakers move closer to banning guns in 'sensitive places'

The New York State Capitol

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called the Legislature back to the Capitol for an extraordinary session Thursday to pass a bill that, among other things, would ban guns in many public places after the Supreme Court made it easier to obtain a concealed carry permit.

Things didn't quite go as planned. The Legislature packed it in around 1 a.m. after Hochul and legislative leaders spent the day negotiating the specifics.

But Hochul finally introduced the Concealed Carry Improvement Act overnight, and lawmakers are set to put it to a vote later Friday.

WNYC's Albany reporter Jon Campbell joined Morning Edition host Michael Hill to discuss the latest.
