One week from today, the winners of the NYC Neighborhood Library Awards will be announced. Two of the judges, Jacqueline Woodson, who won a 2014 National Book Award for her young adult memoir Brown Girl Dreaming, and Maira Kalman, author and illustrator of My Favorite Things, are joined by librarians from three of the finalist libraries to talk about the books and other services that draw people together at libraries:
- Andrew Jackson, executive director of the Langston Hughes Community Library & Cultural Center, a branch of the Queens Library in Corona
- Hasina Islam, children's librarian at the Windsor Terrace branch of the Brooklyn Public Library
- Jeanine Thomas-Cross, library manager of the Mott Haven Branch of the New York Public Library

Every library in the city should be getting money -- it's almost impossible to pick 5 finalists, & "they're all heroic," says Maira Kalman.
