NYPD Violently Confronts Brooklyn Protesters After Curfew

It started with a call to prayer. At Barclays Center, Muslim protesters who had marched from Bay Ridge knelt to pray, surrounded by a perimeter of police. Ten minutes before curfew, the crowd of hundreds marched towards the Brooklyn Bridge. They were stopped by a wall of officers armed with shields and batons.

Protesters started to retreat but then officers charged. Fights broke out. To keep the peace, protesters held up their hands. Then suddenly—more fights and arrests. An officer threw a protester’s bicycle to the side. Demonstrators continued to retreat for the next hour, as officers intermittently ran toward the crowd.
