The NYPD Could Have Two Federal Monitors

Attorney General Tish James is seeking a court-appointed monitor to oversee changes to how the NYPD handles protests. It's part of James's lawsuit against the NYPD, accusing the department of violating protesters' civil rights. If the attorney general is successful in getting a monitor, that would put the NYPD would be under two federal monitorships — which experts say is "very unusual and possibly unprecedented."
