October 22, 1944

Seated at his desk in City Hall, Fiorello H. La Guardia makes his final radio talk to the people of New York as mayor Dec. 30, 1945.

This episode is from the WNYC archives. It may contain language which is no longer politically or socially appropriate.

Mayor La Guardia has an update on the war. "On this 1,050th day of American democracy against the foes of freedom, (says the WNYC announcer)" the Mayor says "we're back in the Philippines," and talks about the enormous task required in keeping the troops there supplied. The Mayor then goes on to talk about 'the meat situation' for the next six months. He also talks about oleomargarine, and the black market in grapes due to the lack of ceiling prices. His Honor notes that lemons are scarce and takes some time to discuss medical care and services to the poor.

The Mayor also talks about a scam and relates a letter from a constituent as well as child labor.
