Introduction. Story of Mrs. Gertrude Berman, refugee and concentration camp survivor who lands in New York with her young son and seeks the help of the USNA. Story of Mrs. Kronin, a concentration camp survivor who waits for her two sons to meet her at the pier. They have not seen each other since 1939. Mrs. Kronin learns that one of her two sons was killed during the war and reads his last letter. Story of Mrs. Malina, an opera singer from Kovno, Lithuania, who survived the war. She sang before a Nazi firing squad and was saved by an officer moved by her song. Epilogue. Mrs. Berman and her son Ludwig find a home in a community initially hostile to their presence. Mrs, Kronin receives an official 'Silver Star for gallentry in action." for her late son. Mrs. Malina continues her singing career. Wrap-up. Mrs. Levine speaks about the necessity for the USNA and closes the Golden Door series.
