Open Space Protests

On Around New York, Robert C. Weinberg comments on recent activism to preserve natural open spaces that have been planned for highway construction across New York state. He discusses a student protest at City College, the Bronx River Parkway, dirt roads in Bedford and outcries at highway beautification conferences. According to Weinberg, "These various individual actions may seem to be unconnected, but I'd like to think they represent a slow, steady growing concern on the part of the public about the needless violation of our remaining green areas."
