People's Hall of Fame: Community Anchors

Every Sunday for more than 20 years, Marjorie Eliot has been performing free jazz concerts in her Edgecombe Ave apartment.

Every year the People’s Hall of Fame honors a group of New Yorkers from a particular community that have left their mark on this city. This year's special focus is on community anchors.

Steve Zeitlin, executive director of City Lore, talks about this year's inductees.

Plus, meet a few of this year's People's Hall of Famers:

  • Marjorie Eliot: for presenting jazz and theater in her own apartment for decades
  • Ricot Dupuy: for serving as a critical link between NYC’s Haitian community and the homeland
  • Dr. Uma Mysorekar: for serving as Founder and Director of the Hindu Temple in Flushing, Queens
  • Freddy Castiblanco: for community contributions as owner of La Terrazzo 7 Latin jazz club in Queens
