The Origins of 'Genocide' and 'Crimes Against Humanity'

Articles of accusation presented against Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg include crimes against peace, war crimes with collective assassinations, torture, slavery, pillage and crimes against Humanity.

Philippe Sands, an international lawyer and professor of law at University College London, examines the lives and work of the two Jewish thinkers from Eastern Europe who simultaneously originated the ideas of “genocide” and “crimes against humanity" in his book, East West Street. 

Event: Philippe Sands will be in conversation with Nadine Strossen, former president, ACLU, at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (36 Battery Place) for the East West Street book launch on Wednesday, June 8th at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, however, pre-registration online is required.
