Police have arrested a man wanted in the fatal subway train arson incident that killed a motorman and injured more than a dozen riders back in March.
It was just after 3am when an uptown one train burst into flames near the 110th street station. The conductor, 36-year old Garret Goble helped passengers evacuate. His body was later found on the tracks. It wasn’t until this Wednesday, when police arrested a man at a Brooklyn station for groping a women, that they found their suspect, 50-year old Nathaniel Avinger.
Transit president Sarah Feinberg says people who commit repeat crimes in the subway should be banned from the system.
“Is it a perfect solution? No, but it’s another tool in our tool box," Feinberg said.
Avinger's been charged with murder. His attorney hasn't responded yet to requests for comment.
