“A Profound Disparity:” New Data Show Disparity in NYC Vaccine Rollout

A profound disparity.” That’s how Mayor de Blasio described the race and ethnic breakdown for the city’s vaccine rollout, which was released Sunday.

The data show that white residents have received three times as many COVID-19 shots as Black or Latino people since the city’s immunization program began in mid-December.

Overall, the  numbers reveal that the vaccine campaign is joining the other unbalanced realities that New York City — and the nation — have seen throughout the pandemic: Black and Latino people continue to bear more of the threat.

Gothamist health reporter Sydney Pereira and WNYC health and science editor Nsikan Akpan spoke about it with WNYC's David Furst.
