It started as a rally at the Stonewall Inn, where a small group has been holding weekly Black Trans Rights marches. This time, they were joined by a larger group of several hundred protesters. They were also surrounded by hundreds of NYPD officers, many wearing motocross gear, and riding bikes--which they frequently used to block the path of demonstrators to keep them out of the street.
“Look at us, we’re dressed fabulous, we're beautiful, we’re coming with nothing but love, we’re not armed,” Dreya St. Clair, 29, from East Harlem said, questioning the heavy police presence.
The march ended at Union Square, where the police once again forced protestors off the streets and made several arrests.
