3rd Annual Public Service Awards for Professional Achievement

New York Mayor Robert F. Wagner at the dedication of the new home of the Fashion Institute of Technology on May 4, 1959.

This is a City Hall ceremony for the NYC Public Service Awards for Professional Achievement - the 3rd annual awards which include a $500 U.S. savings bond.for each awardee.

The speakers: Dr. Theodore Lang; Mayor' Robert F. Wagner. Notes in the box give names of winners. Lang describes the awards and introduces Mayor Wagner.

Mayor Wagner says this is the last time he will present this award and expresses his appreciation to New York's civil servants meeting the vast and complex challenges facing the city. Quotes John Stuart Mill on government. Six awards and seven awardees in this ceremony. Each has demonstrated creative imagination. Dr. Harold Jacob Ziner, unfortunately, is ill and cannot appear to receive his award for lowering infant mortality in the city.

Dr. Lang reads out and makes each award. Awardees: James A. Cavanaugh -Office of the Mayor, Bureau of the Budget; Jerome H. Eric and Benjamin L. Lee and Real Property Assessment Dept share an award; Morris Handel of the City Law Department; John J. Murphy of the Welfare Department; Samuel Rutensky of the Housing and Redevelopment Board. He congratulates all the awardees.
