Rape stats are up in New York. Training to handle sex crimes is down.

New data from Mayor Eric Adams' office shows that the NYPD spent much less time on trauma-informed training for sexual assault investigations during the previous fiscal year. At the same time, reports of forcible rape in New York City have surged since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the spike comes as the Department of Justice is looking into allegations that the NYPD unit that investigates these crimes is shaming victims instead of taking their reports seriously.
