James Blake to Meet with Mayor, Police Commissioner

James Blake, a former tennis star from New York, was mistakenly arrested and thrown to the ground outside a Manhattan hotel.

James Blake, the ex-tennis star who was tackled by a New York City police officer in a case of mistaken identity earlier this month, plans to meet with the mayor and police commissioner Monday.

Surveillance video of Blake's arrest on Sept. 9 outside a Manhattan hotel shows the officer charge Blake, grab him by the arm and roughly take him to the ground. The officer has been placed on modified duty.

The mayor and police commissioner have apologized to Blake. But in a recent interview with WNYC, Kevin Marino, Blake's attorney, says the apology doesn't go far enough.

Blake is calling for the officer to be fired.
