A new report found Clark Township in Union County, New Jersey paid $400-thousand dollars to a whistleblower in attempt to prevent the release of recordings that allegedly show the mayor and police chief using racist and sexist language.
Audio files obtained by NJ Advance Media allegedly show Mayor Sal Bonaccorso using racial slurs in multiple instances. Reporters Riley Yates and S.P. Sullivan wrote the story, and Riley Yates joined Morning Edition host Michal Hill to talk about it.
