New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has asked all those who attended a fundraiser with President Trump at his Bedminister golf club last week to quarantine. But Rik Mehta, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate who's running against Cory Booker, says he doesn't believe that's necessary and he is continuing to hold campaign events.
Mehta was one of 206 people who attended the fundraiser at the president’s golf club last Thursday. The White House doctor has said contradictory things about when the president first got sick, but he was informed that his senior aide had tested positive for COVID-19 before leaving Washingston for the New Jersey event.
Mehta told WNYC he’s not worried about contracting coronavirus because he never came in close proximity to the president. He went even further, saying Governor Murphy is fear mongering to ask all attendees to quarantine.
Mehta attended campaign events over the weekend, including a meet and greet in Sayreville. The owners of a New Jersey gym who have been fighting the governor's pandemic rules are members of his finance committee.
