Republican Candidates Prepare for Their New York Moment

A Donald Trump supporter confronts hundreds of anti-Trump demonstrators protesting outside of a GOP fundraiser in Midtown where Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich spoke.

The presidential candidates are taking advantage of the warm weather to canvas voters on the last weekend before Tuesday's New York primary. It's an important moment for New York. For the first time in years, the state is set to play a key role in the national race. WNYC reporters Janet Babin and Karen Rouse have been reporting on the Republicans.

Trump is expected to do very well in Suffolk County on Long Island and Staten Island. He has been mentioning his New York roots in all his appearances.  "He tries to remind everyone he is from Queens, that he is like us, knows us and trying to convince everyone that we like him," Babin says.
