The results of last week's elections in New Jersey came as a surprise for many who follow Garden State politics closely. Governor Phil Murphy's margin of victory was much closer than widely expected. And State Senate President Steve Sweeney, who has led the legislature's upper chamber longer than anybody in state history, lost to a political newcomer.
