Celebrating Jane Jacobs' Legacy in Our Neighborhoods

Jane Jacobs, author of books on city planning and leader of protesters, was taken by police from the hearing to the Clinton St. station where she was served with a summons charging disorderly conduct.

Jane Jacobs' The Death and Life of Great American Cities was published in 1961 and remains one of the most influential books on urban planning and community development. Award-winning journalist and urban critic Roberta Gratz discusses Jane Jacobs: The Last Interview and Other Conversations just before the centennial of Jacobs’ birth on May 4th. She'll discuss the life and legacy of a journalist and activist who championed grassroots, community-based efforts to preserve NYC neighborhoods.

Event: The Center for the Living City is putting on a Jane Jacobs centennial lecture series. The first lecture by Ray Suarez is on May 4th at the Museum at 12 Eldridge Street at 6:30 p.m. He will be introduced by Roberta Gratz.
