On this episode of City Close Up, host Seymour Siegel interviews Rudolf Bing, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera Association. They discuss Bing's relationship with the board as well as budgetary issues such as production costs, fundraising, and the price of admission and how these figures compare to international Operas.

Bing also discusses scouting for talented performers, "...it's become a completely commercialized... I mean art doesn't interest singers very much anymore with very few exceptions." Seymour asks further questions about singers such as dealing with prima donnas, opportunities for talent to move up from the chorus and understudies raising to stardom such as Roberta Peters.
