Part of
Nights in Latin America.
While the show's roots are actually with WNYC, Nights in Latin America aired as a regularly sponsored program on WQXR from January 1947 until June, 1971. The show was hosted by Pru Devon who devoted herself to detailed research for each of her productions covering the full range of music found south of the United States in Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The WQXR Program Guide: "Pru Devon has been very aptly called the 'Musical Ambassadress of the Americas.' When she begins her Nights in Latin America programs with 'saludos amigos' she invites her listeners to share with her the regional and primitive, the semi-classical and popular music of the Latin Americans."
