Tarta Relena is a duo of singers from Barcelona. Using their voices, electronics, and almost nothing else, they create new versions of very old songs – some with the thumping beat of a club, and others with an otherworldly sound. Tarta Relena began with the two women singing sacred music, including the 12th century hymns of Hildegard von Bingen. But they’ve also become known for their approach to folk songs from around the Mediterranean. Tarta Relena is part of the lineup on March 25 at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn.
