The Constant Invader, TB Among Older People - Rehabilitation, Program No. 4

Fur workers line up to be x-rayed by a machine, in New York, on Oct. 22, 1945, which is capable of taking 200 pictures an hour.

Henry Fonda narrates this episode of The Constant Invader. The story begins at a board meeting for a sanatorium where the Director, Dr. Garwood is lobbying for funds to retain a full-time director of rehabilitation.

He tells the story of a patient, Joe Steadman, who tries to leave before he is fully healed because the welfare agency is insisting that he sell his house. Joe insists that he must continue working for his family's sake. Unfortunately, Joe's Tuberculosis returns and this time he has infected his entire family.

Now there is a new Rehabilitation Director, Mr. Toll who helps the family plan for life once they are well enough to return to society. Joe's daughter Mary shows a talent for illustration and receives funds to study dressmaking. She begins a successful career as the remaining family members recover.

Dr. Garwood's tale win's the approval of the board, and they agree to approve the funds to take on the salary of the Director of Rehabilitation.
