
Days before the Labor Day holiday weekend, new signs appeared in Times Square warning visitors they were entering a gun free zone. Legislation, signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul in June 2022, prohibits the carrying of firearms in "sensitive places" like Times Square. New Yorkers who live and work around the Midtown tourist destination have mixed reactions with many remaining skeptical that the changes will decrease gun violence in the city.
