We were lucky to have had Robert Stone on our show a couple of times over the years. He won the National Book Award for his second novel, Dog Soldiers in 1975. After a hardscrabble youth, he joined the Navy and ventured to remote places like Antactica and Egypt. He said in his twenties he drew inspiration from The Great Gatsby. “I decided I knew a few meanings; I understood patterns in life. I figured, I can’t sell this understanding, or smoke it, so I will write a novel.” He wrote 8 of them, as well as 2 short story collections, and a memoir, before dying at the age of 77. Hear an interview with him discussing his book Prime Green.
