The 'Trump Effect' Getting Women to Run for Office

Women are running for office. Last year, 920 women contacted Emily’s List to inquire about starting their own campaigns. This year that number is up to 20,000. And all of these women are people who have never run for elected office before. Political expert Carolyn Fiddler recently told Joan that she calls it "The Trump Effect." In this segment, Joan interviews three women who are first-time candidates: Ashley Bennett, who’s running for freeholder in New Jersey’s District 3, Elizabeth Guzman, who’s vying to represent Virginia’s 31st district in their state House of Delegates, and Elissa Slotkin, who’s running for Congress in Michigan’s 8th district. Ashley and Elizabeth are up for election this November 7; Elissa’s race is in 2018.
