Two police officers who were caught on camera Tuesday forcibly ejecting a subway passenger who asked them to wear a mask, will be disciplined. This comes as the MTA is trying to increase mask use on mass transit.
The Chairman of the MTA says these officers, and the many others who have been spotted in the subway system without masks, are undermining the rule of law.
If riders don't follow the federal law and wear a mask they can face a $50 fine.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea says the officers in the video will be punished, but won’t be fired or suspended.
The man in the video, Andrew Gilbert, says he’s disappointed and tells WNYC a slap on the wrist just sends a message that there are no consequences for this behavior.
