Veteran NYC Reporter Gabe Pressman Dies at 93

Veteran New York City journalist Gabe Pressman has died, reports NBC 4 New York. He was 93.

Pressman spent more than 50 years reporting for the network, and has long been credited as the first television journalist to cover the city. 

Born in the Bronx in 1924, Pressman graduated from Morris High School and New York University, served as a combat naval officer during World War II, then finished his education at the Colombia School of Journalism. He reported for the Newark Evening News, the New York Times and the New York World Telegram and Sun before starting his career as a television journalist. 

Pressman's list of awards includes the 1989 Edward R. Murrow Award, a 1984 Peabody Award, and 11 Emmys.

He's survived by his wife, his four children and his eight grandchildren.
