As Election Day on Nov. 7 approaches, New Jersey voters won't be surprised to learn Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican Kim Guadagno disagree on many issues facing the state. See how the candidates responded to questions gathered through the Voting Block project on school funding and women's health, topics where there are stark differences. And then make sure to check out the Voter Guide below for a broader comparison of the two leading candidates for governor:
Would you force regional school mergers to address high costs and racial segregation?
Guadagno said yes. WNYC's Voting Block partner NJ Spotlight also asked about this issue at the first debate on Oct. 11. Guadagno said she believed major consolidation could be a cost-saving measure.
Murphy said he preferred incentives to school districts rather than forcing consolidation.
Would you restore funding to Planned Parenthood?
Guadagno said no, arguing that taxpayer money should not fund clinics that provide abortions.
Murphy said yes. His general-election agenda emphasizes supporting access to family-planning services.
