As the U.S Men’s National team prepares for its match with Belgium later today, a fight has already begun between the two nations...over waffles. Waffle House, an American fast-food franchise, tweeted yesterday morning that they “don’t believe in [Belgian] waffles.” A representative told TMZ that they support a boycott on Belgian waffles.
SB Nation has put together a handy guide for telling whether your waffle is evil or not. Here are a few of their tips:
- If the waffle is made with yeast, not baking powder, you have a BELGIAN WAFFLE
- If an eagle delivered the waffle to you by air drop, winked, then flew away in a cloud of stars and Sousa music, you have an AMERICAN WAFFLE
However, if you’re feeling like a traitor, Belgian waffle-makers are fighting back. Wafels & Dinges, a Belgian waffle truck, has promised to give away FREE waffles for 15 minutes after every Belgian goal. You can find them here. But seriously, do not be seen eating a Belgian waffle.
