This Week in Politics: Albany's 2020 Session Takes Shape

Members of the New York state Senate debate budget bills during session in Senate Chamber at the state Capitol Sunday, March, 31, 2019, in Albany, N.Y.

As the 2020 legislative session gets underway in Albany, lawmakers are facing a $6 billion dollar budget gap and an ambitious set of proposals, as laid out by Governor Andrew Cuomo during his State of the State speech.

WNYC's Statehouse Reporter, Fred Mogul joins us for a preview of this year's session. Speaking with David Furst, Fred says the budget shortfall may be bigger than what has been reported.

He says, "According to the Citizens Budget Commission, it's actually closer to $7 billion dollars because these projections assume savings that haven't materialized yet."
