This Week in Politics: Believe the (Bad) Hype

Mayor Bill de Blasio speaks at rally opposing Republican tax plan, December 2, 2017

For months, we have been hearing dire warnings about the GOP tax plan. New Jersey's governor-elect, Phil Murphy, calls it "awful for New Jersey." Governor Andrew Cuomo says it will raise taxes for most New Yorkers. And Mayor de Blasio says if it passes, "you're gonna see the biggest man-made disaster hit the American economy."

WNYC's Washington Correspondent John O'Connor joins us on This Week in Politics to help us get a handle on what it means for tax payers in New York and New Jersey — and for the 2018 midterm election.

Speaking with host David Furst, he says the tax plan could be just as devastating for the region as the doomsayers predict. According to O'Connor, "Most of the analysis and the expert opinion says, 'Yes.' It's gonna be pretty bad for New Jersey and New York residents."
