Weekend Staff Picks: Ladies Football, Open Houses & Oktoberfest

Here are some of the events WNYC staff members suggest checking out this weekend.

ANNA SALE, political reporter & CAITLIN THOMPSON, executive editor of wnyc.org: Anna and Caitlin are members of an all women flag football club that plays every Saturday at 3pm near the ball fields in the Long Meadow section of Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The group is called BAFFLE (Brooklyn-amateur-flag-football-league-etcetera), founded by NYC native Clare Newman, and they want some spectators and potential new recruits. "It's pretty cool because we are playing surrounded by pee wee football games," said Anna. "You have 7 and 8-year olds and then you have us -- grown women."

ALEX GOLDMARK, senior producer of New Tech City: It's the 11th annual Open House New York and Alex likes getting into places that are normally closed to the public.  Hundreds of sites throughout the five boroughs are offering tours and talks this weekend only that focus on architecture and design.

BRIGID BERGIN, reporter: View and taste autumn in the Hudson Valley at an authentic oktoberfest.  Brigid suggests taking one of the early morning ferries from Manhattan on either Seastreak or Circle Line and watch the foliage pass you by on the way to Bear Mountain and after a hike up the mountain enjoy bratwurst, pretzels and beer.
