Every day in New York City, between 30,000 to 40,000 people get tested for COVID-19. The process has never been easier or faster, with hundreds of free testing sites across the five boroughs, including mobile units in hotspot areas. Last month, the city unveiled a new coronavirus testing lab in Manhattan that is aiming to process 20,000 MORE tests a day.
As the city battles a steady rise in cases, that kind of testing capacity will become critical. For weeks, Mayor Bill de Blasio and health officials have been urging all New Yorkers to get tested. But there are a variety of tests, and the different options can be confusing. Gothamist’s Elizabeth Kim discusses the various tests and the ups and downs of each with WNYC's Sean Carlson.
