What To Do About Street Harassment

Street harassment, often referred to as catcalling; most of us have watched it happen on New York City streets, and a great deal of people experience it themselves on a daily basis.

A study commissioned by L’Oréal Paris Stand Up and OnePoll found 46% of those who have experienced public harassment said they’ve gone through MORE of it in the past five years, than at any other time in their lives.

But what are the effects of street harassment and how can people step in when it happens?

Sophie Sandberg founded Catcalls of NYC, a street art initiative that raises awareness about harassment in public spaces. Emily May co-founded Right to Be, an organization that helps people take action against harassment.

They both joined WNYC's Morning Edition host Michael Hill to talk about what to do if you witness harassment.
