
After years of negotiations, New York City lawmakers have reached a deal that clears the way for a major rezoning of Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood.
It would allow new residential buildings to be built in the area, which was largely industrial throughout much of its history. But opponents are raising concerns about gentrification, and the environmental effects of further development.
Kathryn Brenzel, a senior reporter for the publication The Real Deal, talked to WNYC's Sean Carlson about what the plan means for the city.
