On January 20th, thousands of people came to Washington to protest President Trump's inauguration. Nearly a year later, about 200 people who participated in those protests continue to face multiple felony charges in the D.C. Superior Court.
Jury deliberations are underway for the first six of those defendants, who are awaiting a verdict that could come this week. The outcome of this case could have major implications for protest movements and free speech.
Sam Adler-Bell, a policy associate at the Century Foundation, discusses the arguments the government is using in the case, and the precedent the case could set.
Update Dec. 21, 2017: The first six defendants in this case have been found not guilty. Get the full report from The Washington Post here.
