When the L train tunnel closes next April for 15 months of repair work, Canarsie resident Sharon Williams should be set. She's already figured out three alternative routes to get to her job. Her real concern: How to get a workout in without that daily walk to and from the train station.
"I'll probably make up for it on the weekends," she told WNYC. "Go to the track, go to the gym, or on Saturday morning, get up and walk."
Julie Cassidy, who's 17, says she'll have to wake up 30 minutes earlier to get to school. But, you know, it is what it is.
"You can't work on anything without inconveniencing a certain group of people, so like, I get it," she said. "I'm not extremely pissed off, because, like, we all make adjustments in our everyday lives for different reasons. But you know, it’s annoying."
Her adjustment, for what it's worth, comes in 15 minutes lighter than it could be. The worst of this mess is expected to fall on commuters who use the Graham Ave. L stop, for whom the alternative route to 1st Ave. in Manhattan could take an extra 44 minutes.
And to that, Williamsburg resident Jeff Pearson had two words: "Total bummer." Then he had some more words.
"I'm either going to have to make more money to pay for cabs, or move," Pearson told WNYC. He said he'll try to negotiate his rent, but said it'd need to be really low to convince him to say.
